Winter lip care: how to keep your lips soft, smooth and crack-free
Cold wind, dry indoor heating and hot drinks all take a toll on your lips. A simple habit makes the difference: exfoliate gently, hydrate deeply, protect daily.
Why lips struggle in winter
The skin on your lips is thin and has no oil glands of its own, so moisture escapes easily when the air is cold and dry. Licking your lips makes it worse: saliva evaporates fast and leaves them drier than before, which turns into a cycle. Wind and winter sun add extra stress, even on grey days.
Step 1: Gently exfoliate, once or twice a week
Flaky lips can't absorb treatments properly, so a little smoothing helps. Use a gentle lip scrub in small circles for about 20 seconds, then rinse and follow with a hydrating product straight away.

Step 2: A nourishing lip mask
Korean lip care treats lips like skin, with ingredients such as PDRN, collagen, ceramides, peptides and hyaluronic acid. A lip mask gives a concentrated dose of moisture, so lips feel softer and more cushioned. Apply a generous layer and follow the directions on the pack for how long to leave it on.

Step 3: A daytime lip treatment
Reapply something hydrating through the day, especially before going outside and after eating or drinking. For a smoother, fuller-looking finish, a lip plumper adds comfortable shine. A light tingle can be normal with plumpers, but skip them if your lips are cracked or very sensitive.

Don't forget SPF
Lips can burn too, and winter sun reflecting off snow can be strong. If you're out in bright weather, protect your lips and skin with sunscreen. Browse our Korean SPF50 sunscreens.
Everyday habits that help
- Drink enough water. Hydration from within helps your skin, lips included.
- Use a humidifier if your home or office is heated and dry.
- Don't pick or peel flaking skin. Let hydrating products and gentle exfoliation do the work.
- Cover up in the cold. A scarf over your mouth protects against wind.
- Check your products. Some fragrances, mint and cinnamon flavours can irritate sensitive lips. If your lips feel worse after a product, stop using it.
A simple winter lip routine
- Morning
- Apply a hydrating lip treatment, and sunscreen on your face if you're heading out.
- During the day
- Reapply whenever your lips feel dry.
- Evening
- Wipe off lip colour, gently exfoliate once or twice a week, then apply your lip mask.
If your lips stay painfully dry, cracked or inflamed for more than a couple of weeks despite good care, check with a doctor or pharmacist.
Your winter lip kit
Soft lips don't need ten products. A gentle scrub, a nourishing mask and a daytime treatment cover everything.
